A 13CO2 labelling experiment was performed on Populus trichocarpa using a branch enclosure for studying diurnal emissions of both 12C-methanol and 13C-methanol. Branches were supplied with 900 ppm of 13CO2. Controls in a 12C02 environment were included. After 2.5 days, treated and control leaves were removed from the plant, flash frozen under liquid nitrogen, and stored at -80C. Frozen tissues were homogenized by bead milling and extracted in methanol prior to LC-MS/MS.
