Previous stable isotopic and archaeological evidence have characterized the Scythians from the Northern Black Sea Region sites, Bel’sk and Mamai-Gora, as agro-pastoralists. To further investigate their diet and food sources, a shotgun proteomic analysis was performed on Scythian dental calculus. The detection of diverse milk proteins from both ruminant and equine species aligns with previous findings and shows a substantial reliance on ruminant dairy.
